Internal Memorandum
February 18, 1954Washington, D* G.

Treasury Files

By courtesy of Mr* Burgess I talked at length with his
secretary Miss Alexander, who has been in the Treasury for years,
concerning the setup of Treasury files particularly in so far as
they might be cross indexed for Federal Reserve matters or matters
concerning Liaison with the Federal Reserve*
Miss Alexander tells me that central filing as it is pracBank
ticed in the lew lork/and in the Federal Reserve Board in Washington
is not the habit at the Treasury* There has been great divergence in
the way things have been conducted under the various secretaries of
the Treasury*
The net result seems to be that the finding of files for
older periods will be a matter requiring considerable study* Miss
Alexander is doing us a memorandum on several of the people who would
be involved. She will make arrangements for interviews with them at a
later date and it seems clear that at least a day could very usefully
be spent seeing what kind of material was available for use there*
