The papers of Charles Hanlin, lawyer, Assistant Secretary
of the Treasury for tvo terms, f i r a t Governor of the Federal Reserve
Board, member 1914-36, special counsel 1936*36, were given to the
Library of Congress between 1936 end 1955. The f i r e t group eemg from
Charles Sv Hemlln, and subsequent groups from Mrs. Haalln* The
diaries were deposited early, vithdrevn, end returned by Mr* Handing
widow on December 29, 1941 vith e ten ys&T seel on the diaries* The
Halting clause reed *
"Subject to the following limitations and trust, that access
to the diaries for e period of tea years or until ay death prior to
the em! of &ueh period, shall not be permitted to imyon© except "with
my consent in writing. 11

The Library of Congress controls a l l rights of publication
in the diary of Charles S. Kamlin, Requests for publication therefrom
should be submitted to the Chief of the Manuscripts Division. Such
literary rights 63 Mrs. Hamlin possesses h&ve been dedicated to the
public•
the diaries, correspondence &n& the Charles S* Hamlin scr&p~
books concern current social, economic and political affairs, and are
especially valueble in connection vith the formation end history of the
Federal Reserve System.
The diaries of Mr* Ha»linfg vidow &re deposited in the
Boosevelt iiibr&ry at H(yde Perk but cont&in l i t t l e besides personitl
and social notes.
