Andrew ¥• Mellon
COMMITTEE ON THE HISTORY OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM

Register of Papers
Processed: MA
Date: 10/31/55

AtiDBEtf W. MELLON
(1855 - 1937)

The papers of Andrew Mellon, industrialist, banker, art
patron, Secretary of the Treasury and ex-officio Chairman of the
Federal Reserve Board (1921-32), Ambassador to Great Britain, are
stored in a Pittsburgh warehouse, in the Treasury and in the National
Archives. These papers are the subject of sorting and study by
persons connected with the family.
Their present conclusion is that the papers w M c h concern
Mr. Mellon1s service with the Federal Reserve Board are in Washington,
either incorporated in the files of the Board, or in the Treasury
files, or in those Treasury files which have been incorporated in the
National Archives. It is anticipated that the Mellon papers will
eventually go to the Library of Congress. (See letter from A. V.
Schmidt dated 6/1/55 for more detailed information.)

Permission to consult must be sought in appropriate quarters
(National Archives, Federal Reserve Board, etc.), depending on which
group of papers is to be consulted. The Pittsburgh papers may be
approached through Dr. A. W # Schmidt, A. ¥. Mellon Educational and
Charitable Trust, Pittsburgh, Pa.
