MELLON (1855 - 1937) The papers of Andrew Mellon, industrialist, banker, art patron, Secretary of the Treasury and ex-officio Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board (1921-32), Ambassador to Great Britain, are stored in a Pittsburgh warehouse, in the Treasury and in the National Archives. These papers are the subject of sorting and study by persons connected with the family. Their present conclusion is that the papers w M c h concern Mr. Mellon1s service with the Federal Reserve Board are in Washington, either incorporated in the files of the Board, or in the Treasury files, or in those Treasury files which have been incorporated in the National Archives. It is anticipated that the Mellon papers will eventually go to the Library of Congress. (See letter from A. V. Schmidt dated 6/1/55 for more detailed information.) Permission to consult must be sought in appropriate quarters (National Archives, Federal Reserve Board, etc.), depending on which group of papers is to be consulted.
