a year before Strong1 s death* Strong's didsatisfaction (and that of his successors in NY bank, involved
solely a disagreement as to the technique of operation•
NY favored continued high rediscount rates and openmarket sales, while Washington favored "direct pressure"
designed to keep money cheap for other purposes, whild
cutting it off from the stock exchange.
