In 1916, the city of Louisville petitioned St. Louis for the creation of a branch bank in their city, but the petition was denied. The attached hearing is a transcript of a meeting held at the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. on December 21, 1916 when a group of Louisville bankers and William McChesney Martin Sr. appeared before the Board to discuss their needs. On July 3, 1917, the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis granted the petition for a branch bank at Louisville, KY. The Louisville branch opened for business on December 3, 1917.
