York City, with deposits
of over
$ 151,000,000 , and only exceeded by two banks
there, has recently placed the Abernethy Folding Shades on one floor of its building.
Some of
the windows were pivoted — that is, swung out
into the street, and the Abernethy Shades , being
made of mahogany, and being the only shades
which could be fastened to the window to swing
with it, were perfectly adapted for this need.
Perhaps you would like to know more about

Perhaps you would like to try them ?
If

send you a sample shade, and if it is not exactly
as represented, you can return it at our expense.

RELIABLE
OLD
The Original "Bankers ' Blue Book"
Accept No Substitute
70th EDITION
JANUARY , 1911
To
Our
39th YEAR
Subscribers
E take pleasure in offering to you the Seventieth Edition of the RandWE
McNally Bankers' Directory, feeling satisfied that the information contained
herein is as correct, complete, and reliable as it can be made.
Neither time nor money is spared in its compilation and publication and
because we realize that an enormous volume of important business is guided
by the information contained herein, we publish nothing that is not obtained
from the most authoritative sources.
We use every possible device to obtain information in regard to new and
closed banks so that we may miss none and carry no dead matter. The names
of officers and directors, and the banking information for each edition , all come
direct from the banks themselves. The attorneys in our List of Attorneys are
recommended to us by banks in the town or city in which they are located .
The entire contents of the Directory are carefully revised and brought
up to date for each edition , all information being obtained as nearly as possible to the day of publication. The maps are all Rand McNally's new maps,
the same that are published in our best atlases.
The populations given in this Edition are the government reports from
the 1910 Census in so far as these reports were made public at the time of
going to press. All other populations are new figures, being given to us by
the bankers in the various towns and cities.
We take great pride in the typography of the Directory. A new face of
type appears in this Edition , clear, plain, and easily read, and we believe you
will agree that our advertising pages are beautiful examples of the printing art.
We have experimented for years to find a better method of indexing and
always arrive at the same conclusion - that, although simple, the present index
is the most easily read and the most convenient to use ; consequently, the best
for our subscribers' use.
We are continually striving to make our Directory as valuable as possible
for our subscribers, and to that end we welcome at all times any suggestions
that would help us to serve you better.
We thank you for your continued patronage, and hope the result of our
efforts meets with your approval.

Little Talk With The Banker
who buys the
advertising
E. St. Elmo Lewis, the well-known advertiser and advertising
writer, in his valuable work on "Financial Advertising" in the chapter
on the "Trade Press, " gives the following interesting results of a
canvass made by the manager of the Department of New Business
of one of the largest banks in America to obtain information
about the banking journals of the country .
The question "What
financialjournals do you pay a subscription price for?" was sent to a certain
number of average banks in each state in the Union and brought
the following replies:
(Only the first thirty out of fifty-nine are
here given .)

For
nearly forty
years
this Directory has been the Standard Reference Book for the Banks , Lawyers and Large
Business Houses of America .
Beginning as a book of two hundred
pages, it has grown to its present proportions
for two reasons :
1st.
The natural growth in the number
of the banks in the country.
2d .
The
addition
by the publishers
of
a vast amount of valuable information for the
benefit of the subscribers .
The publishers
take great pride in the
completeness and the accuracy of the information in the
Directory and in what they
consider its typographical perfection.
