T his is essen tial in order to perm it the grouping of occupational wage rates representing comparable job content. B ecause of this em phasis on interestablishm ent and interarea com parability of occupational content, the Bureau’s job descriptions may differ significantly from those in use in individual establishm ents or those prepared for other purposes. In applying these job descriptions, the Bureauvs field econom ists are instructed to exclude working supervisors, apprentices, learners, beginners, trainees, handicapped workers, part-tim e, temporary, and probationary workers. O F F IC E BILLER, MACHINE BOOKKEEPING-MACHINE OPERATOR Prepares statem ents, b ills, and invoices on a machine other than an ordinary or electrom atic typew riter. May also keep records as to billings or shipping charges or perform other clerical work incidental to billing operations. For wage study purposes, b illers, m achine, are classified by type of machine, as follow s: Biller, machine (hilling machine)— U ses a sp ecial billing ma chine (Moon Hopkins, E llio tt F ish er, Burroughs, etc ., which are combination typing and adding m achines) to prepare bills and in voices from custom ers’ purchase orders, internally prepared orders, shipping memorandums, etc. U sually involves application of prede termined discounts and shipping charges and entry of necessary extensions, which may or may not be computed on the billing ma chine, and totals which are autom atically accum ulated by machine. The operation usually involves a large number of carbon copies of the bill being prepared and is often done on a fanfold m achine.
