MATURITY DISTRIBUTION OF OUTSTANDING
NEGOTIABLE TIME CERTIFICATES OF DEPOSIT
The total of outstanding negotiable time certificates of deposit (CD’s)
in denominations of $100,000 or more at large commercial banks as of December 31
was $10.9 billion, compared with $11.3 billion reported in the previous month’s
survey. A year ago all reporting banks had $23.5 billion of large denomination cer
tificates outstanding.
The certificates maturing on the March 10, March 16, and April 15 tax and
dividend dates totaled $297 million, compared with $1,286 million for the correspond
ing survey a year ago.
The average maturity of total certificates outstanding, at 3.1 months, was
slightly shorter than the average maturity reported for the November survey. For the
comparable survey a year ago, average maturity for outstanding certificates was also
3.1 months.
The distribution of maturities by bank size is shown on the back of this
release.
