DEPARTMENT STORE SALES IN SEPTEMBER 1937
Preliminary report

Department store sales increased, in September by more than the usual seasonal
amount, and the Board's adjusted index was slightly higher than in other recent
months. The index for the last three months and for September 1936 is shown below:

Total sales in September were 6 percent larger than in September 1936 and in
the first nine months of this year sales were 9 percent larger than in the corresponding period of last year.
