DEPARTMENT STORE SALES IN OCTOBER 1935
Preliminary r e p o r t
Value of department s t o r e s a l e s showed l i t t l e change, on the b a s i s
of d a i l y averages, from September to October, a season when t h e s e s a l e s
u s u a l l y i n c r e a s e . The Board 1 s index, which maxes allowance f o r usual
seasonal movements and f o r d i f f e r e n c e s i n the numoer of business days,
was 77 percent of the 1923-25 average i n October as compared with 82
percent in September and 79 percent i n August.
Aggregate d o l l a r volume of s a l e s i n October was 6 percent l a r g e r than
a year ago and f o r t h e f i r s t t e n months of the year was 4 percent l a r g e r
,than during t h e corresponding period i n 193*+•
