Preliminary Report

Department s t o r e s a l e s showed l e s s than t h e usual seasonal r i s e from September
t o October, p a r t l y because of exceptionally warm weather f o r t h i s time of y e a r , and
t h e Board's a d j u s t e d index declined from 86 percent t o 83 p e r c e n t . The index i s
