STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS
For release in morning papers,
Saturday, July 10, 1926..
Retail Trade ill June. 1926
Total sales in June of 468 retail stores which made preliminary reports
to the Federal Reserve System from all sections of the country were 3.5 per
cent larger than in-June, 1925, Increases occurred in all Federal reserve
districts except in the Cleveland and Minneapolis districts where declines
amounted to 1.6 per cent and 7.4 per cent,respectively. The largest increases,
ranging from 7 to 11 per cent, were in the Atlanta, St. Louis, and How York Federal reserve districts. The increase for the country as a whole reflects larger sales than last year at about half the stores, the other half reporting
declines.
Sales of two mail order houses were 14.3 per cent larger than in June,
1925, and those of 5 and 10 cent variety chain stores (5 chains) were 8 per
cent larger than a year ago.
