The Federal Reserve B o a r d ' s index, which makes allowance both f o r number of b u s i n e s s days and f o r u s u a l s e a s o n a l changes, was 81 in December on t h e b a s i s of t h e 1923-1925 Average as 100, compared w i t h 83 i n November and 36 i n October, In comparison with a year ago t h e v a l u e of s a l e s f o r December, a c c o r d i n g to •the p r e l i m i n a r y f i g u r e s , was 1J per cent s m a l l e r . The a g g r e g a t e f o r t h e year 1931 a s a whole was 11 p e r cent s m a l l e r .
