STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS
S t .3017.
Federal Reserve Board
September $ , 1922.
BANK DEBITS.

Volume of business for the week ending September 6 , as measured by debits to
individual accounts reported to the Federal Reserve Board for banks in leading cen
ters, totaled $ 7 ,4 0 6 ,0 0 0 ,0 0 0 , or $162,000,000 in excess of the total for the pre
ceding week.
This increase is quite notable, in view of the fact that the week con
tained only five business days, and is due in large part to end-of-month transact
ions effected during the week. All of the larger centers, except Philadelphia,
Pittsburgh, Chicago, Detroit, and Milwaukee show larger figures timn the week be
fore.
New York City reports an increase of $95*000,000.
Substantial increases for
the week are also shown for San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Dallas.
As compared with the week ending September 7» 1921 > the volume of business for
the week ender review shows an increase of $ 1 , 153 *000, 000, or of about 19 per cent.
For New York City, partly because of the larger voliane of stock exchange transact
ions an increase of
$91 8,50 0 ,0 0 0, or nearly 8o per cent of the total, is shown.
Increases over corresponding 1921 figures are also shown for all the other larger
centers, except Baltimore, Minneapolis, and Kansas City.
The total number of centers reporting this week is 24-9, of which l66 are in
cluded in the summary by Federal reserve districts.
