STATE\®fT FOE THE PRESS Released for publicatipn Sunday morning, Oct. 22; not earlier. S t .3114 Federal Reserve Board, Oct. 21, 1922. BANK DEBITS Volume of business for the week ending October IS was $9 »S65 ,0 00,000, qaqpaped with $ 9 , 319 , 000,000 for the week before. This increase of 6 per cent is reported in spite of the fact that the week of October 18 includes Columbus day, which is observed as a holiday i n most of the cities. Larger figures are shown for all the leading centers, except Pittsburgh and San Francisco. For the corresponding week in I 92I the volume of business was $9,14-5,000,000* Owing to the fact that last year Columbus day was included in the preceding week ending October 12, and that the week ending October 19 had six business days, while the week under review has only fiv e , the excess of this year’ s figures over last yearns is much less than has been customary in recent weeks. In fact smaller figures than last year are reported for a number of the leading centers, particularly Boston, Baltimore, and San Francisco. The volume of business is measured by debits to individual accounts reported to the Federal Reserve Board for banks in leading centers. The total number of centers reporting this week is 248, of which i64 axe included in the summary by Federal reserve districts.
