Below is given the Federal Reserve Board15 ninth weekly statement of total
debits to deposit account, reported through the Federal Reserve banks by about l40
Of' the country's more important clearing houses. Transactions cover the weekly
periods ending Wednesday, October 9 and l6. The statement closes with a recapitu­
lation giving comparative data by reserve districts for centers reporting both
Weeks. The only important addition to the list of reporting centers is Cleveland,
for which comparative figures covering transactions for the last two Weeks are
shown. Comparative data for the last two weeks cover debit transactions for clear­
ing house banks in about 135 centers .
Figures of reporting clearing houses by Federal Reserve districts are as
follows (in thousands of dollars, i . e . , 0 0 0 's omitted):

observed as a legal holiday and that therefore the figures
shown in the statemsnt for the October l 6 week represent
the total business transacted during the ^five business days
of that week, as against six days in the week immediately
preceding*
