BANK DEBITS

Volume of "business for the week ending November 1 was $9» 666 , 000, 000,
compared with $9,560,000,000 shown for the preceding week.
Increased figures
were reported for seven of the Federal reserve districts, while five districts
reported smaller figures.
Most of the leading centers in the East reported
a larger business volume, though declines are shown for Philadelphia and
Pittsburgh.
The largest decrease, amounting- to $ 19 , 000, 000, is reported for
Chicago.
For the corresponding week in 1921 the volume of business was $8,7*2,000,000,
the total for the week under review being larger by $925 , 000, 000, or 11 per cent.
Larger figures are shown for all the leading centers, except Baltimore, Chicago
and San Francisco,
The increase for New York City amounted to 14 per cent, for
Pittsburgh to 24 per cent and for Detroit to 19 per cent.
The volume of business is measured by debits to individual accounts reported
to the Federal Reserve Board for banks in leading centers.
The total number of
centers reporting this week is 248, of which 162 are included in the summary by
Federal reserve distriots.
