BANK DEBITS

Debits to individual accounts for the week ending November 21, aggregated
$ 1 1 , 027 , 000,000 or about IS per cent in excess of the total of $9,314,000,000, re­
ported for the preceding week. All of the more important centers except Philadel­
phia, Buffalo and Cleveland, show larger figures than for the week before. New Ycrk
City reports an increase of $1,165,000,000, or 26 per cent, Chicago - of $109,000,000,
Boston - of $72,000,000, Detroit - of $47,000,000, San Francisco.-of $45,000,000 and
Los Angeles - of $40,000,000.
As compared, with the corresponding period in 1922, debits for the week under
review show an increase of $1,452,000,000, or of about 15 per cent- All of the
larger centers, with the exception of Philadelphia, Omaha and New Orleans, show in­
creases over last year’ s figures. New York City reports an increase of $894,000,000,
or 19 per cent, Chicago - of $105,000,000, Loa Angles - of $57,000,000, Boston of $53,000,000 and Detroit - of $45,000,000.
Debits to individual accounts are reported to the Federal Reserve Board for
banks in 253 centers, of which 246 are included in the summary by Federal reserve
districts.
