Debits to individual accounts, as reported by banks in leading cities for the
week ended May 4 , aggregated t 8 ,536,000,000, or 7 percent above the total reported

for the preceding week and 1^ percent below the total for the corresponding week
of last year*
Aggregate debits for the l4l cities for which a separate total has been main­
tained since January 1919 amounted to 07,903,000,000, compared with $7,419,000,000
the preceding week and #9,117,000,000 the v;eek ended May 5 of last year.
