Federal Reserve Board
May 29, 1920.

Below is given the Federal Reserve Board's weekly statement of debits to
individual account reported through the Federal Reserve Banks by over I 50 of
the^ country*s more important clearing houses. Transactions cover the weekly
periods ending Wednesday, May 26 and 19 of the present year and May 2S, 1313*
The statement closes with a recapitulation giving comparative figures by re
serve districts for cities reporting complete data for the three weeks under
review.
Reports from 152 clearing houses in leading cities show a total of 9»155*5
millions of debits to individual account, a decrease of 130-1 millions from
the total shown the week before. With the exception of New York City, Pittsourgh and New Orleans, all the larger centers show substantial reductions in
bank transactions for the week, the decrease for the 151 places outside of
New York City being over 7 per cent. As compared with corresponding figures
for last year the Jew York total for the week under review shows but little
change, as against an increase of about 25 per cent for the remaining cities.
For the 21 weeks the cumulative tot^.1 for New York City, 102,366 millions,
was about 20 per cent larger than in 1919» while the corresponding total for
IU7 other centers, 37,144-7 T.illions, was 28 per cent larger than last year.
