BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM May 12# 1955 (For Immediate Release) G.6 B A M DEBITS TO DEMAND DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS Bank debits to demand deposit accounts, except interbank and Government accounts, as reported by banks in 345 leading centers for the month of April aggregated $158 billion. During the past three months debits amounted to $487 billion or 4.0 per cent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in New York City there was a decrease of 1.4 per cent compared with the corresponding three-months period a year ago; at 6 other centers the increase was 6.9 per cent; and at 338 other centers it was 7*9 per cent. Preliminary estimates of the annual rates of turnover of demand deposits in April are 37.3 at New York City, 27.2 at 6 other centers, and 19*6 at 338 other centers.
