BANK DEBITS
Below is given tiio Federal Reserve Board1s weekly statement of debits
to individual account, reported through the Federal Reserve banks by over
150 of the country's more important clearing houses« Transactions cover
the weekly periods ending Wednesday, March 3 and. February 25 of the present
year, and March 5, 1919' 2he statement closes with a recapitulation giving
comparative figures by reserve districts for centers reporting complete data
for the three weeks under review.
Debits to individual account reported by I 5O of the leading clearing
houses aggregated. 10,302 millions for the week ending March 3. compared with
7 , 735 -S millions for the immediately preceding weak, all the larger centers
reporting considerable increases over the corresponding totals of the pre­
ceding week, composed of only 5 working days. For New York City the increase
is 1,4U0.5 millions, or about 38 per cent, compared with an increase of about
28 per cent only for the other reporting centers. As compared with the total
for the corresponding week in 1919 an increase of 2 , 606.9 millions, or of 3^
per cent is shown-. For Now York City the increase since last year is 1,211*2'
millions, or about 30 per cent, while for the other l49 cities the increase
i s 1.395*7 millions, or nearly 32 per cent.
