Debits to individual accounts, as reported to the Federal Reserve Board by
banks in leading cities for the week ending March 18, aggregated $12,415,000,000
or 12-7 per cent above the total of $11,020,000,000 reported for the preceding week.
All of the more important centers except Washington and OrnahA report increases for
the week. The principal increases are as follows: New Ycr<£ City $f54, 000,000,
Chicago $176,000,000, Philadelphia $73,000,000, Pittsburgh $41,000,000, St.Louis
$2S,000,000, Cleveland $26,000,000 and Boston $24,000,000.
As compared with the week ending nMarch 19, 1924, debits for the week under re­
view 3how an increase of $2,303,000,/or 22.8 per cent, most of the leading centers
reporting larger figures than a year ago. New York City reports an increase of
$1,602,000,000, while other large increases are as follows: Chicago $222,000,000,
Philadelphia $56,000,000, Minneapolis $44,000,000, and San Francisco $27,000,000.
The only large decrease, $17,000,000, was reported by Los Angeles.
Aggregate debits for l4l centers for which figure* have been published, weekly
since January, 1919, were $11,741,443,000 ae compared with $10,401,723,000 for the
preceding week and $9,516,434,000 for the week ending March l9"'i 1924.
Debits to individual accounts were reported to the Federal Reserve Board for
banks in 255 centers, of which 249 are included in the summary by Federal reserve
districts.
