BANK DEBITS
AND DEPOSIT TURNOVER
Bank debits to demand deposit accounts (except interbank and U. S. Government accounts)
for the month of February for banks in 233 Standard Metropolitan Statistical areas and other
centers were $7,263.9 billion at a seasonally adjusted annual rate. This was 1.4 per cent lower
than the previous month and 15.4 per cent higher than February 1967.
New York area banks reported a decrease of 3.2 per cent from the preceding month and
an increase of 18.1 per cent over February a year ago. Compared to a year ago, debits at 6 Other
Centers were up 14.7 per cent, and at 226 Centers the increase was 12.5 per cent.
