R. 285 STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS For immediate release BANK DEBITS Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Systen March 17, 1943- Debits to deposit accounts -(except interbank accounts), as reported by banks in leading cities for the week ended March 12, aggregated $8,914,000,000* Total debits during the 13 weeks ended March 12 amounted to $125,113,000,000, or 11 percent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in New York City there was an increase of 8 percent compared with the corresponding period a year ago, and at the other reporting centers there was an increr.se of 14 percent.
