STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS
BANK DEBITS

Board of Governors
of the Federal Reserve System
March 11, 1940.

Debits to individual accounts, as reported by banks in leading cities for
the week ended March 6, aggregated $8,943,000,000, or 23 percent above the total
reported for the preceding week, which included only five business days, and 8
percent above the total for the corresponding week of last year.
Aggregate debits for the l4l cities for which a separate total has been
maintained since January 1919 amounted to $8,227,000,000, compared with
$6,656,000,000 the preceding week and $7,650,000,000 the week ended March o of
last year.
