g.6 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) June 12, 1953 BANK DEBITS TO DEMAND DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS Bank debits to demand deposit accounts, except interbank and Government accounts, as reported by banks in 345 leading centers for the month of May aggregated $142 billion. During the past three months debits amounted to $441 billion or 9.4 per cent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in New York City there was an increase of 5*7 per cent compared with the corresponding three-months period a year ago; at 6 other centers thfe increase was 15.7 per cent; and at all other centers it Va6 9.4 per cent. Preliminary estimates of the annual rates of turnover of demand deposits in May are 35*6 at New York City, 25*5 at the 6 other centers, and 18.6 at all other centers.
