BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM G.6 (For Immediate Release) July 13, 1954 BANK DEBITS TO DEMAND DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS Bank debits to demand deposit accounts, except interbank and Government accounts, as reported by banks in 34-5 leading centers for the month of June aggregated $163 billion. During the past three months debits amounted to $468 billion or 6.0 per cent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in New York City there was an increase of l6.4 per cent compared with the corresponding three-months period a year ago; at 6 other centers the decrease was . 7 per cent; and at all other centers the increase was . 6 per cent. Preliminary estimates of the annual rates of turnover of demand deposits in June are 44.2 at New York City, 21.0 at the 6 other centers, and 19.7 at all other centers.
