BANK DEBITS TO DEMAND DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS
Bank debits to demand deposit accounts, except interbank and Government
accounts, as reported by banks in 34-5 leading centers for the month of June aggregated $163 billion. During the past three months debits amounted to $468 billion
or 6.0 per cent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago.
At banks in New York City there was an increase of l6.4 per cent compared with
the corresponding three-months period a year ago; at 6 other centers the decrease
was . 7 per cent; and at all other centers the increase was . 6 per cent.
Preliminary estimates of the annual rates of turnover of demand deposits
in June are 44.2 at New York City, 21.0 at the 6 other centers, and 19.7 at all
other centers.
