STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS
BANK DEBITS

Board of Governors
of the Federal Reserve System
January 23, 1939

Debits to individual accounts, as reported by banks in leading cities for the
week ended January 18, aggregated $8,373,000,000, or about the same as the total
reported for the preceding week and 1 percent above the total for the corresponding
week of last year.
Aggregate debits for the l4l cities for which a separate total has been main­
tained since January 1919 amounted to $7,680,000,000, compared with $7,639,000,000
the preceding week and $7,64-9,000,000 the week ended January 19 of last year.
