Debits t o individual accounts fo r the we«k ending January 9 aggregated
$10 , 520 , 000,000 or $180,000,000 less than the to ta l o f $10 , 700 , 000,000 reported; fo r
the preceding week, which included but fiv e business days. New York City reports a
decrease o f $102,000,000, Chicago - a decrease of $100,000,000, Cleveland - a decrease
o f $61,000,000 and Cincinnati - a decrease o f $40,000,000. The largest increase,
$18,000,000, is reported fo r Los Angeles.
As compared with the corresponding period- in 1923 , debits fo r the week under
review show an increase o f $250,000,000 or o f about 2.4 per cent. Increases are
shown fo r most of the leading centers. New York City reports an increase o f
$68,000,000, Los Angeles - an increase o f $41,000,000, and Boston - an increase o f
$33, 000, 000.
Aggregate debits fo r the l4 l centers fo r which figures have been published
vyeekly since January, 19 19 , were $9,865,784,000 as compared with $10,059,307,000
fo r the preced ing week and $9 ,64 2,l62,0QQ, fo>T the week ending January 10, 1923Debits to individual accounts were rep osed to the Federal Reserve Board fo r
banks in 252 cen ters, o f which 245 are included in the surnnary by Federal reserve
d is t r i c t s .
