BANK DEBITS

Board of Governors
of the Federal Reserve System
February 5, 19-40

Debits to individual accounts, as reported by banks in leading .cities for
the week ended January 31 , aggregated $8,161,000,000, or 4- percent above the total
reported for the preceding week and 1 percent above the total for the corresponding
week of last year.
Aggregate debits for the l4l cities for which a separate total has been
maintained since January 1919 amounted to $7,530,000,000, compared with
$7,221,000,000 the preceding week and $7,4-36,000,000 the week ended February 1 of
last year,
