BANK DEBITS
Aggregate debits to individual account, as reported for banks in
I56 of the country’ s leading clearing house centers for the week ending
February 23, were 6, Ut3 millions as compared with 7,34-2 millions for
the preceding week* Smaller totals of debits were reported frcm all
the leading centers except Pittsburgh. The smaller totals for the most
recent week are due to the fact that it includes Washington's birthday,
a legal holiday throughout the country. On a basis of a daily average,
debits for the-week ending February 23 were somewhat larger than for the
preceding week.
As compared with the corresponding week in 1920, which also was a
five-day week, debits to individual account for the week under review
are smaller by 1,223 millions, or about 17 per cent, nearly all the
important centers,reporting reduced figures.
