Form FR—285 STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS For immediate release BANK DEBITS Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System February 26, 1940 Debits to individual accounts, as reported by banks in leading cities for the week ended February 21, aggregated $8,310,000,000, or 20 percent above the total., reported for the preceding vieel:, which included only five business days in many of the reporting centers, and 28 percent above the total for the corresponding week of last year, which included only five business days. Aggregate debits for the 141 cities for which a separate total has been maintained since January 1919 amounted to $7,607,000,000, compared with $6,317,000,000 the preceding week and $5,936,000,000 the week ended February 22, of last year.
