Debits to individual accoimbs, as re ported to the Federal Reserve Board by
banks in leading cities for the week ending February 22, 1923, aggregated
$12,797,000,000 or only slightly above the total of $12,7^9,000,000 reported for
the preceding week. The current vreek included but five business days, Washington'c
birthday, February 22, being observed as a holiday throughout the country.
Debits for the week under review are $1,703,000,000 or 15*4 per cent above
those for the week ending February 23, 1927, which also included but five
business days. Hew York City reported an increase of $1,498,000,000, San Francisco
$71,000,000, Chicago $65,000,000', Boston $45,000,000, and Los Angeles $21,000,000,
while Pittsburgh reported a reduction of $29,000,000, Philadelphia $24,000,000
and New Orleans $20,000,000.
Aggregate debits for l4l centers for which figures have been published
weekly since January 1919 amounted to about $12,156,000,000, as compared with
$12,018,417,000 for the preceding week and $10,466,045,000 for the vreek ending
February 23, 1927*
