BANK DEBITS—DEBITS TO DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS EXCEPT INTERBANK ACCOUNTS
Bank debits as reported by banks i n 342 leading centers f o r the month of
January aggregated 138,402 million d o l l a r s . During the p a s t three months t o t a l
debits amounted t o 401,286 million d o l l a r s or 24 per cent above the t o t a l reported
f o r the corresponding period a year ago. At banks i n New York City there was an
increase of 20 per cent compared with the corresponding three-months period a year
ago, and a t the other centers there was an increase of 26 per cent.
Eight new reporting centers have been added in the Kansas City D i s t r i c t and one
in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t / although back f i g u r e s are available f o r some of these
centers, they are not included in the t a b l e s and 1950 f i g u r e s have not been revised.
