BANK DEBITS

Bolow is given the Federal Reserve Board* s weekly statement of debits to
individual account, reported through the Federal Reserve banks by over 150 of
the country's mors iTnocruant clearing hoiises. Transactions cover the weekly
periods ending Wednesday, January 22 end 21 of the present year, and January
29, 1319- The statement closes with a ivcvitulation giving comparative fig
ures by reserve districts for centers reporting coirplete data for the three
weeks under review.
Aggregate debits to individual accovnt reported for 150 clearing house
centers for the week under review were 3,995*6 millions or 13
p^r cent below
the corresponding total shown the week before, all the more important centers,
except Cleveland, reporting smaller figures. More than one-half of the de
cline is due to the shrinkage in transactions reported for New York City. As
compared with corresponding figures for the week ending January 22, 1919, an
increase of 1,500.7 millions, or over 25 por cent, is shown. Larger than
average increases since last year in weekly debits are reported for banks in
Boston, Cleveland, Baltimore, Detroit, Dallas, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
