BANK DEBITS

Debits to individual accounts, as reported to the Federal Reserve Board by
banks in leading c i t i e s , aggregated $11,158,000,000 or 3 Per c^r*t above the tota l
o f $10,232,000,000 reported for the preceding week. New York City reports an in­
crease of $371,000,000.
Chicago reports a decline of $25,000,000, San Francisco
^f $19,000,000 and Los Angeles of $21,000,000.

As compared with the week ending December 12, 1923, debits for the week under
review show an increase of $1,4 4 4 ,0 0 0 ,0 0 0 or 14.9 per cent.
Increases are shown
for most of the larger centers, the largest gains being reported for the following
c it ie s ; New York City $ 1 ,1 2 8 ,0 0 0 ,0 0 0 , Philadelphia, $53,000,000, Chicago
$45,000,000, Minneapolis $31,000,000, Pittsburgh $23,000,000 and Boston $20,000,000.
Aggregate debits for 141 centers for which figures have been published weekly
since January, 1919, were $10,531,892,000 as compared with $10,22 6 ,6 1 7 ,0 0 0 for
the preceding week and $ 9 ,1 2 0 ,5 3 8 ,0 0 0 for the week ending December 12, 1923.
Debits to individual accounts were reported to the Federal Reserve Board for
banks in 255 centers, of wMch 247 are included in the summary by Federal reserve
di s t r ic t s .
