PSESS 87'A': aiS&x,
November jO 7

19IS-

Below is given the Fede "a 1 Reserve 3ou?d' s 2 if teen th woekJ.y statement of
total detits to deposit accent, reported through the Federal Reserve banks by
about 1*4-5 of the country* s -rcre irporoant clearing houses- Transactions cover the
weekly periods ending Wedna£ciay; Koveoiber 20 and 27 • The statement closes rfj.th a
recapitulation giving comparative data by reserve districts for centers reporting
both weeks. Figures for the latest week show sabstantia-l increases in debits to
both individual and bank accounts in the Hew York, Philadelphia, Cleveland and c>an
Francisco districts . While seme of these increases may be due to the larger num
ber of banks reporting through their clearing houses, the larger portion oi the
gains shown reflect undoubtedly the larger volume of business transacted in these
di stricts.
Comparative data for the last two weeks cover debit transactions for clearing
house banks in about 140 canters.
Figures of reporting clearing houses by Federal Reserve districts are as fol
lows (in thousands of dollars, i,e>, 000 ' s omitted):
