August 8, 1938

Debits to individual accounts, as reported by banks in leading cities for the
week ended August 3 , aggregated $7,612,000,000, or 10 percent above the total re­
ported for the preceding week and 15 percent below the total for the corresponding
week of last year •
Aggregate debits for the l4l cities for which a separate total has been mainr
tained since January 1919 amounted to #6,983,000,000, compared with $6,374,000,000
the preceding week and $8,23-4,000,000 the week ended August 4 .of last year,
