STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS st. 3661 Federal Reserve Board, August 25, 1923* Released for publication Sunday morning, August 26; not earlier. BANK DE3ITS Bank debits for the week ending August 22 aggregated $8,182,000,000 cr about 10 per cent above the total of $7,414,000,000 reported for the preceding week. The smaller figures for the week ending August 15 were due in part at least to the ob servance of August 10 as a holiday by the banks in most of the districts. All of the more important centers, except Cleveland and St. Paul, reported larger figures than for the preceding week. The largest relative increase for the week was reported for Detroit. The increase for New York City was about $500,000,000 or about l6 per cent. Substantial increases were also reported for Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. As compared with the corresponding period of last year, total debits for the week under review show an increase of $433,000,000 or 6 per cent. All of the larger centers report increases over last years figures except New York City and New Orleans. Debits to individual accounts were reported to the Federal Reserve Board for banks in 249 centers of which 245 are includsd ir. the summary by Federal Reserve districts.
