STATEMENT FOE THE PRESS Released for publication Sunday morning, April 9; not earlier. S t.2715' Federal Reserve Board, April 8 , 1922. B A M DEBITS Volume of business for the week ending April 5 was $9,166,000,000, marking ^ increase of $ 1 , 257 , 000, 000, or of about 16 per cent, over the total o f^$7 , 903, 000,000 reported for the preceding week. This increase, in which all the leading centers without exception participated, reflects in part the volume of end-of-month and endof-quarter settlements effected on March 31* As compared with the week ending April 6 , 1921, foe volume of business for the report week was larger by $1,244,000,000, or by about 16 per cent. This entire gain is accounted for by increases in the volume of business in New York City and Chicago, most of the other leading centers reporting smaller figures this year than a year ago. This is particularly true of Minneapolis and Eansas City, for which substantial reductions in volume of business are shown, The number of centers reporting this week is 242, of which 164 are included in the summary by Federal reserve districts.
