Government accounts, as reported by banks in 3^4 selected centers for the month of March aggregated $293 billion. During the past three months debits amounted to $827 billion or 10.9 per cent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in New York City there was an increase of 10.6 per cent compared with the corresponding three-months period a year ago; at 6 other leading centers the increase was 13*0 per cent; and at 337 other centers it was 10.2 per cent. Seasonally adjusted debits at 337 centers for the month of March is $108.1 billion, an increase of 2.6 per cent over the preceding month, but 1.2 per cent below the high level of January. The seasonally adjusted annual rate of demand deposit turnover at banks outside New York and other financial centers increased to 27 *6 after a decline in February.
