For immediate r e l e a s e September 23, 1964 H.12 COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY Commercial and i n d u s t r i a l loans increased i n a l l but one category and a n e t of $771 million a t weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks during the week ended September 16, r e f l e c t i n g q u a r t e r l y t a x date needs. The l a r g e r n e t increases were $120 million i n loans t o t r a n s p o r t a t i o n , communication, and other public u t i l i t i e s , $111 m i l l i o n t o r e t a i l t r a d e , $58 million t o manufacturers of machinery, $55 million t o manufacturers of food, l i q u o r , and tobacco products, $50 m i l l i o n t o manufacturers of t r a n s p o r t a t i o n equipment, and $102 million t o u n c l a s s i f i e d borrowers.
