COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

Commercial and industrial loans increased a net of $6 million at
weekly reporting large commercial banks during the week ended September 6.
The principal net increases were $92 million in loans to manufacturers
of primary metals, $28 million to manufacturers of food, liquor, and tobacco
products, $25 million to retail trade.
The larger offsetting net decreases were $34 million in loans to
"other" wholesale trade, $30 million to unclassified borrowers, and $45 million
to "all other" types of business concerns.
