COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

H.12

Commercial and industrial loans increased a net of $627 million at weekly
reporting large commercial banks during the week ended October 2, 1974.
The principal net increases were $190 million in total unclassified loans,
$113 million in loans for retail trade and $102 million in all other loans.
The largest offsetting decrease was $125 million in loans to manufacturers
of food, liquor, and tobacco.

INDUSTRY

T o t a l c o m m e r c i a l and industrial term loans w e r e $46,426 m i l l i o n as of
September.
T h i s w a s a n increase of $6,415 m i l l i o n over the c o m p a r a b l e d a t a a
year ago and an i n c r e a s e of $581 m i l l i o n from the last W e d n e s d a y of A u g u s t .
The principal net

changes w e r e $107 m i l l i o n in loans to m a n u f a c t u r e r s

of m a c h i n e r y , $116 m i l l i o n in loans to m a n u f a c t u r e r s of t r a n s p o r t a t i o n
equipment and $99 m i l l i o n in foreign c o m m e r c i a l and industrial loans.
T h e t o t a l of all b u s i n e s s term loans o n S e p t e m b e r 25, r e p r e s e n t s
4 3 percent of b u s i n e s s o u t s t a n d i n g at large c o m m e r c i a l b a n k s in the s e r i e s .
