COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY
Commercial and industrial loans increased a net of $473 million at weekly
reporting large commercial banks during the week ended
May 6.
The principal net increases were $198 million in loans to manufacturers
of machinery, $94 million to "other" public utilities, and $90 million to unclassified
borrowers.
The largest offsetting net decreases were $61 million in loans in bankers'
acceptances, and $52 million to the mining industry.

COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL TERM LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

Total business term loans were $31,481 million as of April. This was an
increase of $649 million over the comparable data a year ago and a decrease of $567
million from the last Wednesday in March.
The principal changes in term loans during April were decreases of
$119 million in loans to the mining industry, $132 million to transportation, and
$141 million to "other" public utilities.
The total of all business term loans on April 29 represented approximately
47 per cent of total of business loans outstanding at large commercial banks reporting
in the series.
