COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOAMS ODTSTAKDIMO BY DIDPSTHY

Commercial and Industrial loans Increased In eight districts and a net of
$31 million at weekly reporting member hanks during the week ended March 23 •
The principal net increases were $30 million in loans to manufacturers of
chemicals and rubber products, $24 million to retail trade, $20 million to the mining
industry, which Includes producers of petroleum and natural gas, and $6l million to
unclassified borrowers.
The larger offsetting net decreases were $42 million in loans to manufacturers
of machinery, $39 million to commodity dealers, and $34 million to manufacturers of
food, liquor* and tobacco products.
Outstanding loans and changes from a week ago and a year ago are shown below;
cumulative changes since year-end and during the comparable period last year are shown
in the last two columns.
