COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

Commercial and industrial loans increased in all districts and a net of $955
million at weekly reporting large commercial banks during the week ended June 18.

The principal net increases were $201 million in loans to manufacturers of
machinery, $115 million to retail trade, $89 million to manufacturers of transportation
equipment, and $242 million to unclassified borrowers.

The larger offsetting net decreases were $52 million in loans to manufacturers
of primary metals, and $49 million to ,rall other" types of business concerns.
