COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

Commercial and industrial loans increased in all districts and a net
of $345 million during the week ended June 5.
The principal net increases were $144 million in loans to foreign
commercial and industrial concerns, $90 million to manufacturers of primary
metals, $46 million to manufacturers of "other" durable goods, $40 million
to manufacturers of food, liquor, and tobacco products, and $50 million to
unclassified borrowers.
The largest offsetting net decrease was $102 million in loans to
"all other" types of business concerns.

COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL TERM LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

Total business term loans were $27,969 million, as of May. This was an
increase of $3,354 million over the comparable date a year ago and an increase of $115
million over the last Wednesday in April.
'^le principal changes increasing term loans during the month of May were $107
million in loans to transportation, and $72 million to foreign commercial and industrial
loans, which was a new high in this category.
The total of all business term loans on May 29, represented approximately
42 percent of the total of business loans outstanding at large commercial banks
reporting in the series.
