COMMERCIAL AMD INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

Commercial and industrial loans decreased in ten districts and a net of
$235 million in weekly reporting large commercial banks during the week ended
January 10.
The principal net decreases were $106 million in loans to retail trade,
and $76 million to manufacturers of food, liquor, and tobacco products.
The larger offsetting net increases were $89 million in loans to
"all other" loans, $60 million to the mining industry, which includes producers of
petroleum and natural gas, and $59 million to manufacturers of transportation
equipment.
